Newborn villages in the city centre
Installation
For all ages

Inspired by the world of migratory birds and migrating humans, Jean-Michel Caillebotte invents a poetic and aerial scenography for these unusual “nest villages”. Four thematic suspended installations (Primitive Nests, Favela Nests, Asian Nests and Bohemian Nests) bustle with life, cooing and conversation, celebrating the adaptability of nomadic habitats and the similarities between humans and animals. Foliage, bric-a-brac, stilts, caravans, allegory and raw realism come together to bring us fragments of personal stories that invite us to encounter the other.

BIOGRAPHY

> JEAN-MICHEL CAILLEBOTTE (France)

Sculptor, scenographer, visual artist and graphic designer Jean-Michel Caillebotte has been exploring different facets of the poetry of movement for thirty years, working with puppeteers, urban planners and architects. The Toulouse-based company P.H.U.N propelled him into the world of live performance and street theatre. Then, from 2001 to 2003, he was artistic director of the Tournefeuille carnival in collaboration with l’Usine, a French national centre for street art and public space. For many years he supported the work of the Royal de Luxe company, with Jean-Luc Courcoult making him artistic lead for the creation of the giant puppets, Grand-mère de Nantes, and the Mexican dog El Xolo. In 2016, Belgian artist Hans Op de Beek commissioned him to create his Garden of Whispers at the Cloître des Jacobins in Toulouse. In 2017, he created his monumental piece Motrice at La Villette (Paris) and Les Champs Libres (Rennes). His company, Star Pilot, has created a series of works on different scales: Vanités, Tea Time, Sur les chemins de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, etc.
