The Encyclopaedia of migrants is a European project initiated by director Paloma Fernández Sobrino. First dreamt up in 2014 in the Blosne district of Rennes, in 2017 it led to the publication of a book following the formal codes of Diderot and d’Alembert’s Encyclopaedia (large format, three leather-bound volumes of 1,782 pages decorated with gold letters). It contains 400 life story testimonies, collected in 8 cities of the Atlantic coastline of Europe. The Encyclopaedia will be symbolically handed over to the Mayors of the 8 partner cities. In Rennes, the ceremony will take place on Saturday 4 March at 11.30am at the Triangle cultural centre. A reading marathon will then be organized by L’Âge de la Tortue, with the goal of reading the Encyclopaedia from cover to cover in 24 hours. This public and collective reading project will be performed by a group of readers trained for the occasion.
