Berlin, sixteenth criminal chamber of the regional court: air force pilot Major Lars Koch appears in court, accused of the voluntary manslaughter of 164 people. On 26 May 2013 he shot down an airliner hijacked by a terrorist who intended to crash it into a stadium filled with 70,000 people. All the passengers died.
Although he believes he acted in accordance with his moral duty, by acting without orders, Lars Koch broke the law.
Terror was written by German writer Ferdinand von Schirach and invites spectators to experience this trial from the inside, as jurors. After each side pleads their case, they will have to vote to convict or acquit the accused. What will they base their judgement on? Must we submit to human-instituted laws, or can we rely on our own moral intuitions?
With this immersive piece, La Caravane compagnie, with the support of Les Tombées de la Nuit, presents a rare opportunity for an individual and collective philosophical journey.
