Jan Dismas Zelenka was particularly inspired by the biblical book of Lamentations, especially in his Leçons de Ténèbres, which creates a unique genre somewhere between a cantata and a motet. He was a double bass player and composer at the Court of Dresden, with a very personal musical style, and wrote a number of sacred and profane vocal and instrumental pieces, including this Tenebrae for solo voices and an instrumental ensemble. In Rennes, this sublime music will be brilliantly performed by Damien Guillon and his colleagues, who will shine a new light on the Saint-Germain de Rennes Church.
