SMing is an interactive choir installation created by Namur-based Gaëtan Libertiaux and Gaël Gertrand from Studio Superbe. Spectators will have the opportunity to act as both conductors and fully-fledged choirs, as each person’s voice is first recorded in audio and video format, for analysis, modification and then transformation into a full choir from baritone to soprano. Each screen shows the individual and represents a voice in the choir created from the initial sound recorded. Audiences can direct the orchestra using a “magic wand”, controlling the tempo and volume of the musical ensemble, giving their music artistic intimacy. SMing was created in January 2018 on the invitation of Les Tombées de la Nuit. It is now back in an updated version, offering a new musical experience as it immerses us in our own vibrations and harmonies.
At the same time as SMing, the Opéra stage will be playing host to Opéra immersif, where audience members wearing virtual reality headsets will be immersed in a faithful reconstitution from the Rennes Opera. They’ll find themselves in the middle of an excerpt from Carmen as the orchestra and singers perform. Audience members will be teleported to discover the concert from various points of view, from the third-level balcony to the orchestra pit and even the stage, standing alongside the soloists. In partnership with: Noise Maker, ESI Group, Artefacto, PADE design, l’Espace des Sciences, Rennes Métropole.
From Monday, October 14 to Thursday, October 17, mornings and afternoons will be reserved for school sessions. For more information, please contact the Opera Cultural Action Department at 02 23 62 28 00.
