Using the impressive trove of natural materials (flowers, plants, feathers, stones, wood, mushrooms, shells, etc.) he has been collecting for thirty years as a tireless hiker, artist Johnny Lebigot assembles and invents an enchanting, facetious and suspended world. It’s a complete, sensitive and poetic dimension, combining craftsmanship, learned naturalist action and joyful vanities. For the festival, he will transform the reception area of the Hôtel Pasteur into a world of ramifications and suspensions, sculptural magic and wild and wonderful paintings.
BIOGRAPHY
> JOHNNY LEBIGOT (France)
Born in Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët, Normandy, near Mont Saint-Michel, Johnny Lebigot left his hometown to pursue literature studies in Caen. Even then, he was already listing and collecting plants and grasses, becoming a tireless surveyor of these “sorcerer lands” where he grew up. At the age of 23, he became a cultural programmer in Stains, just outside Paris, as a passionate fan of French music. Alongside his visual arts research, he developed activities around improvised music and in 2003, joined the team at the L’échangeur theatre in Bagnolet (Paris region), in co-direction with Régis Hebette. In 2005, encouraged by a film set decorator and painter friend, Johnny Lebigot imagined his first piece entitled Nature and Absence. Since then, he has continued his craftsmanship work with various carte blanche projects and exhibitions, mixing formats (sculpture, installations, performance) in his poetic and formal explorations about the “confusion of realms”.
