“Parastos (παραστάσις in Greek) is a solemn memorial service for the repose of the departed in the Eastern Orthodox and Byzantine Catholic churches, followed by a meal of the deceased person’s favourite food and drinks.”

Before the Dromesko Theatre closes, Lily and Igor want to create one final encounter between the various artists they have worked with in their shows, and audiences from Rennes and elsewhere – a kind of swansong or rather “song of the marabout”.

The Dromesko Compound is opening its doors for three final funeral wakes, washed down with wine, soup and music.

The Dromesko Theatre’s home has hosted such a vast array of live performances that it has often been referred to as a public good. Actors, dancers, musicians, scriptwriters, and many other creators of heartwarming moments will join you around these tables, where our cups have long overflowed with joy and hope. These wooden boards, worn by your elbows, marked by special moments and shared dreams… A wake is a sad event, but here all that is being buried are our memories. We will move forwards once again to further unlikely encounters.

If performances are live, at some point they must come to an end, leaving their spectators with images and memories which will themselves fade away. Throughout our creative lives, we have sought to find as discreet a way as possible into the hearts and minds of those who would stop for a while to watch and listen to us. This courteous discretion will hopefully avoid you rejecting us, dear spectator, but should most of all help you make these moments of joy, fear, and shared humanity your own. That’s what gets us up in the morning. A brand-new day, once again finding a way through this chaos, trying to not to vomit at the news, and not to tell our kids too many lies.”
