From waking up to preparing meals, nap time and working in the fields, Une journée à Takalédougou recounts the daily life of a village in south-western Burkina Faso, on the banks of the Komoé River. The combination of sounds collected onsite, reinterpreted traditional Mandingo and ambient electro sounds immerse us in this small West African village, where the griots use their voices to give rhythm to the small and big events of the inhabitant’s lives.
The minimalist staging, using tribal motifs and highlighted by black light, accentuates the feeling of immersion. To initiate a musical dialogue, the two musicians have created sound objects that even the youngest children can use to experiment with making sound. Around them, masks and sculptures with sensors offer a space for exploring and improvising sounds.
