Last year, artists, performers and directors Yvan Clédat and Coco Petitpierre brought their unique poetic world to Les Tombées de la Nuit during regular season and the festival, with La Parade Moderne and Les Baigneurs. Their constant concern is to question and challenge the everyday codes of contemporary culture using visual arts, art history and performance. They are back in Rennes with a performance for 14 dancers that was first presented in 2016 at the Parc culturel de Rentilly, and then subsequently at the Centre Pompidou in Malaga (Spain).
Newly-weds, seemingly plucked straight off the top of a wedding cake, will pose in the archetypal and familiar forms of wedding photography. With perfectly synchronised movements, just like animated figurines, they will take their lengthy poses in Parc du Thabor, one of the most romantic “natural” locations in Rennes… but with no photographer on the scene. Out in the park, the compositions and scenography are inspired by the idealised forms of portrait photography in life-size tableaux.
It operates as a humorous and aesthetic reflection drawing on French and English garden traditions, the history of art, sculpture and theatre, performance art and the Thabor location itself, beckoning spectators in to think about issues of perspective, body language, composition and facial expression. Get ready for a truly authentic spectacle !
