A unique experience…
Les Tombées de la Nuit welcome you to a show where you can fall asleep!
After the fantastic Macbeth en forêt that lit up a two-night run in May 2014, the Théâtre de l’Unité is back with Les Tombées de la Nuit for two very special nights this March. The longstanding theatre company run by Jacques Livchine and Hervée de Lafond is known for doing things differently, with a daring and inventive approach. This time they are whisking us away for two nights of long-haul theatre. Each night involves a seven-hour performance, which the audience enjoys in a recumbent position – and they are perfectly entitled to go to sleep. Another feature of the event is the way it explores the early hours of Sunday morning, something that has never been done since the start of the Dimanche à Rennes events.
Spectators are welcomed by hostesses in red livery, as if boarding a night train, and prepare their pillow and sleeping bag. They then lie back and allow the performance of the ten actors, singers and musicians to wash over them. This night-time public transport trip is a journey through music, poetry, text and images. At times, the brain starts to drift away, and the drowsiness sometimes strangely sharpens the senses. Some will fall asleep, others will barely nod off… or not at all. This curious journey will take in memories of Vietnam, questions of intimacy, humorous moments, fragrances and lights, and will finally draw to a close with a breakfast.
La Nuit Unique is a real getaway, built on communal relationship and a restful atmosphere… where time will seem to stand still. It is a rare and intense experience that feeds and soothes the soul.
The venue is heated, but you are nonetheless invited to dress in warm clothes and bring a few essential items such as a blanket or sleeping bag, pillow, etc. for the cooler hours in the middle of the night.
