Canadian guitarist and singer Eric Chenaux is hard to pin down with a ready turn of phrase. An avant-garde jester? A postmodern troubadour? An experimental crooner? Words don’t really hit the mark. Over 25 years of work, he has become an explorer, a kind of musical hiker. He has a clear, far-sighted and broad vision of music and its history, weaving together medieval chants and cubist improv in the style of Monk or Coleman, Derek Bailey-style mash-up textures and the clear lines of Broadway classics, spiky, rootsy folk and the smooth vocals of Caetano Veloso.
