THE PHANTOM CARRIAGE
SNOWDROPS (FR)
CINEMA-CONCERT • FOR ALL AGES • FREE
Christine Ott is a renowned composer and pianist, best known for her mastery of the Ondes Martenot, an enigmatic electronic musical instrument invented almost 100 years ago. Her music is powerful and intense, with a unique cinematic dimension. Alongside Mathieu Gabry, with whom she founded the Snowdrops collective, she creates a score somewhere between impressionism, minimalism and otherworldly music, embracing the images of Victor Sjöström’s film The Phantom Carriage. The mix of tones resonates with the Swedish director’s visual experimentation. Like the phantom carriage in the film, Snowdrops builds a dialogue between the worlds of the living and the dead.

LATERNA MAGICA
DORIAN ROSSEL & DELPHINE LANZA (FR / CH)
SHOW • FOR ALL AGES • FREE
Actor Fabien Coquil brings to the stage an offroad version of the stage adaptation of the memoirs, or rather anti-memoirs, of Swedish director Ingmar Bergman.
It’s an unashamedly autobiographical account, partly recounting memories and partly acting as a psychoanalytical outlet, revealing the childhood and creative foundations of this versatile genius. He talks about his life, and as his memories start to drift, he reinvents his own story to measure its impact and finally make it his own. In Laterna Magica, Ingmar Bergman turns his life into fertile, fluctuating material, filled with obstacles, humour and shortcomings, in fragments that are conducive to burgeoning creativity. It’s simply fascinating.

JAY-JAY JOHANSON • SOLD OUT
MUSIC • FOR ALL AGES
Jay-Jay Johanson needs no introduction. For 27 years, the Swedish artist has been enchanting audiences with his songs, which are halfway between the songwriting of a crooner, an aesthetic still tinged with trip hop, and distant ties with David Bowie and Andy Warhol.
On this winter Sunday in Rennes, Jay-Jay will be performing songs from his new album Fetish, as well as a host of his other hits, including It Hurts me so, Believe in us and the recent Heard somebody whistle.
It’s sure to be a lively affair, like a sort of communion between the artist and his audience.
