Music
For all ages
Enjoy the diversity of the Breton festival Le Grand Soufflet with three things on offer this autumn Sunday. The programme includes:
- Les Lavandières de la Nuit, by the Mélisme(s) chamber choir, Marthe Vassalo & Gildas Pungier at Saint Aubin church. Phantoms, witches, warrior goddesses and otherworldly creatures… this is the legend of the ghostly and mysterious night-time washerwomen, which has existed in Europe since the Middle Ages. From one local tradition to another, they beat their laundry to announce death or cast a spell on an unfortunate passer-by; woe betide the unaware soul who disturbs them, or the housewife who accepts their help! Marthe Vassallo and Gildas Pungier, accompanied by a vocal quartet from the Mélisme(s) chamber choir and a diatonic button accordion, set these captivating and spellbinding stories to music and words.
- A stroll through Thabor Park to the Trad & Roots sounds of the Tribal Jâze trio, merrymakers who mischievously combine accordion, baritone sax and drum in a musical bazaar as delightful as a confetti-filled carnival.
- Le Bal du Grand Soufflet, where the Thabor Park Guinguette is taken over by Eris and Startijenn, leading bands on the traditional Breton scene, Dutch folk duo Naragonia, Skiphail and others.
In a nutshell, there’s plenty to get your fill of music and dancing right in the heart of Rennes. It’s time to get on your dancing shoes!
