What is the place of children in our cities today? Where do they fit into public space? Can they play freely outside dedicated spaces?
50 metres is the perimeter of freedom given to children by adults today. The Agence de Géographie Affective encourages us to give them more than this pretty limited amount of space so that they can venture out into the city. What happens beyond this distance? What’s out in this new world? Monsters? Animals? In their exploration of children’s freedom and autonomy in public space, Olivier Villanove and Catherine Verlaguet have created a participatory show in which children become accomplices and the real actors of the walking tour.
In Rennes, after workshops with the company and their teacher, 9 and 10-year-old pupils from the Clôteaux school in Bréquigny (accompanied by three actors) will take the audience on a joyful and fun adventure, exploring the possibilities beyond these 50 metres. Divided into three groups, spectators, adults and children alike will be able to experience their environment in a different way before coming together to share their discoveries. It’s a magical experience where the imaginary meets real life.
